My 1 Year Blogiversary – What happened in my first year of blogging

Hello and Welcome!

It’s a very special day today, in that it’s been 1 year of me blogging. I honestly can’t believe that it’s been a year, so much has happened and I’m going to share some of the things that have!

As with most things in life, it’s certainly had its ups and downs. I can’t say that I blogged solidly for the entire year, I did take a few breaks to look after my mental health. However, today is my official blogiversary, with my first ever beauty review being posted on this date last year!

I didn’t plan this, but it’s very fitting that this post is coming straight after my previous post about the future of my blog and having my tarot cards read.

I’m going to share some of my stats just in case anyone is interested, but honestly I have no idea what ‘good’ or ‘bad’ stats look like! I did have a period after I added affiliate links from Awin, where Google removed me from all searches, and my views dropped massively (that was definitely a low point of my year).

As I said, I don’t know what ‘good’ or ‘bad’ stats are, I like to think that I’m doing pretty well but I honestly don’t have a clue. Please don’t compare yourself, or your blog, to these stats, I’m just doing it so I can keep track, and compare against it in following years.

During the year I’ve:

  • Posted 88 times (including this one) – that works out at roughly 1.7 posts a week (we can see that I did not keep up to my twice a week posting schedule).
  • Gained 275 followers
  • Had 31,601 views
  • Had 23,487 visitors
  • Amassed 2,069 likes
  • Joined the WordAds programme (and so far made a whopping $0.12)
  • Got a blog header
  • Got my own domain
  • Worked with a handful of brands
  • Been accepted onto the Awin Affiliate programme
  • Featured in The Metro and The Sun
  • Written 142,386 words (not including this post)
  • Been read in 139 countries

It honestly seems like such a huge amount of things when I write it all out in a list and it’s crazy to think that many people, from such a vast variety of countries, have read my blog!

The Good and the Bad

Of course it’s not all about stats. I’ve met some incredible, supportive, talented, individuals through blogging and I’m so incredibly thankful for every single person who is following, or reads (but if you read and aren’t following then what are you doing? Join the party), and supports, my blog.

When I started I honestly didn’t think it would ever amass to anything, I don’t really see myself as anyone important and, for the most part, I’m just giving my opinion. It’s absolutely wild to me that so many people are reading what I have to say.

There have been some hard times throughout this year, which resulted in me taking breaks from blogging. Usually these were in my personal life, but I did want to share a bit about some of the negative aspects that I have noticed during my year blogging. Sometimes it is really difficult, especially when you see people getting loads of opportunities, despite hardly posting. I’ve seen blogs that only post reviews of things they got for free, and it sometimes does get to me. I pride myself on being authentic and truthful, but unfortunately that isn’t what everyone looks for. I tend to lose motivation quite a lot and the emphasis on stats (ironic when I’ve just shared mine, I know) can make blogging less fun and if you focus on it too much when you’re trying so hard, it can get upsetting. However, I’ve definitely grown a lot throughout the year and am learning to just appreciate what I have.

My Reflection

Whether you’re a new blogger, or have been around for ages, know that you are fantastic how you are and don’t compare yourself to others. I’m starting to learn how to do this, but it’s definitely a process. When I started my blog I was so nervous to post, I didn’t know what my friends or family would think of it, but I love doing it so it doesn’t really matter what they think.

The point I’m trying to make is, blogging has its ups and downs, but if you love it then the ups should outweigh the downs. Don’t compare yourself to anyone, or any other blog, because you are unique and if you’re truthful, and passionate, then that will come through in your posts. There are some incredible bloggers out there, and most people in the community do want to see you grow and succeed and will support you on your journey. There will be those who don’t understand, there will be things that annoy you, but don’t be distracted by those things and you’ll get through.

Tips for New Bloggers

  • Stay true to who you are – Don’t feel pressured to be someone that you aren’t, and don’t write anything that you don’t 100% believe.
  • Don’t be nervous – Everyone is when they start, but there really is nothing to be nervous about. In the entire year that I’ve been blogging, I’ve probably received a handful of minorly rude comments, but most of them have been nothing but love.
  • Do what you love – I love beauty, however I also have other interests. Whilst my blog has been mainly reviews, I’m starting to branch into other beauty-related topics because I find them interesting too. Write about what you love, and don’t box yourself into one category.
  • Remember the numbers are people – This seems like a weird thing to say, but you can get really caught up in numbers and statistics. Whilst the numbers are important, remember to take a step back and think about those numbers as people, it puts things into perspective.
  • Engage with other bloggers – It’s so rewarding to form bonds with other bloggers, at the end of the day you’re all trying to grow and you’re all heading in the same direction, so why not do so together.

Final Thoughts

This year has honestly been surreal, I still can’t believe that this blog is mine and that so many people have read my posts. I’m grateful for every single person who supports me, and I cannot wait to see what the future brings. I’m excited to grow and I’m excited to work with more bloggers and brands.

Here’s to another year!

Sorry, I was away at Isle of Wight festival! Thank you so much, I honestly thought before I started blogging that it was a negative community but I’m very glad that I’ve been proved wrong! ❤️
